I paint every minute I get - often that means painting with a baby snuggled in bed next to me, or on my lap. This was a blissful moment. Wayne had gone to get the big kids from school, and I was left in a silent house for the first time in weeks! I LIVE for moments like this.
I am a Melbourne-based artist, a writer, a former speech pathologist, a wife and a mother.
I am primarily a watercolorist and a digital painter, but my love of art play (and my ADHD need for novelty) leads me into gouache, acrylics, cut paper, quilling, felting and many other media. I have taken several art and writing classes with the Children’s Book Academy and OC Art Studios, among others.
I am a member of SCBWI, a 2021 PBParty finalist, and a member of several critique groups for both art and writing.
Many of my stories feature neuro-diverse characters, reflecting my own childhood experiences, and those of my children. My illustrations often feature biracial children. I want my own children to see themselves reflected in the pages of my books.
I would not be able to pursue my dream of a career in kid lit without the staunch support of my husband, Wayne, and the enthusiastic encouragement of my three boys, Ishe, Kudzi and Kuda. We welcomed our first daughter, Ana, in February of 2022. The love of these five wonderful humans is what keeps me going.
